The initiative takes place under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rosen Plevneliev together with BASSCOM, BOA, BAIT and ICT Cluster Bulgaria.
The leading Bulgarian IT industry organizations - the Bulgarian Association of Software Companies (BASSCOM), Bulgarian Outsourcing Association (BOA), Bulgarian Association of Information Technologies (BAIT), ICT Cluster , signed a cooperation agreement in the field of training and education of IT specialists with the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science.
MES and the branch organizations have agreed to collaborate in creating an advanced educational process for acquiring professional software education, which is expected to improve the competitiveness of the fastest-growing and most profitable sector of the Bulgarian economy. The agreement will set the foundation for developing public-private partnerships and creating opportunities for projects of common interest.
The initiative will be launched in 2017 in Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna and Ruse and will support the sustainable increase of graduates with professional qualification and university degree in Information and Computer Science. Other important aspects of the project are the broader coverage of the school curriculum for software development and computer modelling, and the launch of specifically designed qualification programs for the teachers. The main objective is to build the required capabilities in the professional high schools and to improve the education continuity together with the Universities. The new academic programs will be conducted by state educational standards and developed by the business. As claimed by the “Concept for Promoting the Software Specialists Education”, students are expected to cover the job requirements and qualifications right after obtaining their high school degree.
"Industries of the future, especially information technologies, should strengthen their positions in the Bulgarian secondary education. This will enable thousands of young people to find their successful career in the rapidly growing sector of high technologies and to stay in Bulgaria. And it will enable the Bulgarian economy to become more competitive globally", the President said.
“By collaborating with the Government to shape policies and initiatives in all key areas for the development of the IT industry, including education and skill development, we are able to establish and sustain Bulgaria as a leading global business services destination and preferred and trusted business partner”, said Stefan Bumov, Chairman of BOA and Chief Operating Officer of HeleCloud™, an Amazon Web Services technology consultancy with offices in Maidenhead, UK, and Sofia, Bulgaria.
