AWS Educate, HeleCloud and Sofia University launch first Cloud education project in Bulgaria

November 14, 2017

Sofia, 14 November, 2017: AWS Educate launched its first Cloud education project in Bulgaria in cooperation with HeleCloud and the Sofia University Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics. Bulgaria became one of the 47 countries worldwide which empower the Cloud education in universities and schools. The pilot project was presented during an official press conference held on 14 November at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics.

"With the increasing demand for Cloud employees, AWS Educate provides an academic gateway for the next generation of IT and cloud professionals. AWS Educate is Amazon’s global initiative to provide students and educators with the resources needed to accelerate cloud-related learning endeavours.”, said Felix Manoharan, Head of AWS Educate for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Currently, AWS Educate unites 1,400 educational institutions across 47 countries providing free access to the secure Cloud services platform, labs, and powerful computing that enables dynamic content, video lecture capture and self-paced and distance models.

“Bulgarian students have great potential, motivation, and abilities, and it gives us a great pleasure that HeleCloud and FMI agreed to this pioneering cooperation. Expanding students Cloud education with practical exercises on the AWS Cloud services platform will give them leading edge when applying for job. More and more companies are moving to the Cloud which leads to the need for well-prepared Cloud experts”, added Stefan Bumov, Chief Operations Officer, HeleCloud.

“It is an economic challenge for us to address the constantly evolving business needs. We are happy to welcome and support the initiative of AWS Educate and HeleCloud which will help us improve Cloud education at the University”, said Associate Professor, PhD Parvan Parvanov, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Sofia University.

HeleCloud will support the implementation of AWS Educate in the university curriculums, its adaption and the effective usage of the resources. HeleCloud consultants and FMI educators will develop together assignments and exercises in order to enable the students to get hands-on experience with AWS products and services, and Cloud technologies.

New technologies such as public cloud, Internet of Things, robotics and artificial intelligence are being adopted faster than ever in Bulgaria. The trend affects not only the companies but also education and human capital. Employing new disciplines into universities’ and schools’ curriculums is inevitable to address business needs for thoroughly prepared human resources. “HeleCloud supports the Cloud education development, and the launch of this first joint AWS Educate and FMI pilot project is only the first step in the development and advance of the Cloud education in Bulgaria”, added Stefan Bumov at the official press conference.
